THE WORK
See it for yourself.
This is what the work actually looks like. I'd rather show you what I do than try to describe it.
The Low Back
"I don't feel any pain right now. So, that's a good start."
Low Back Pain · Mountain Biker, 37 · 2-week resolution
Their Goal
Promptly address back pain following a mountain bike race and get it feeling good enough for another race in 2 weeks.
What Their Body Was Doing
Multifidus strain around L3 leading to paraspinal and quadratus lumborum guarding. These resulted in pain and compensatory movement.
What We Did
Lumbar mobility motions as tolerated, neutral lumbar spine hinge extension, RDL with slump, and isometric lumbar extension.
What They Can Do Now
No pain at rest, improved tolerance to training ride, and progressed sufficiently to ride in the race 2 weeks after the injury.
Spinal Cord Injury
"Pretty good for a guy who was never going to walk again."
Spinal Cord Injury · Business Owner, 52 · 18 months
Their Goal
To first walk again without help, then to get back to deep sea fishing and golfing.
What Their Body Was Doing
He had impaired strength, sensation, preconception, and motor control with a significant amount of deconditioning.
What We Did
Coordination, strength, balance, endurance, proprioceptive, gait and stairs training over the course of 18 months.
What They Can Do Now
Walk without a walker, get up and down from the floor, and can go up and down stairs. Now working on even harder tasks like fishing and golfing.
The Hips
"I can feel what they're supposed to be doing after that."
Hip Coordination · Golfer, 37 · 4 weeks
Their Goal
To find out which limitations, if any, are limiting his golf swing.
What Their Body Was Doing
Difficulty coordinating hip rotation with a dissociation between thorax and pelvis.
What We Did
Coordination drills for disociating hips and trunk and then added load and speed.
What They Can Do Now
Have a more consistent swing without having to think about it.
The Shoulder and Ribs
"My shoulder is feeling better during rolls."
Rib and Shoulder Pain · Jiu Jitsu, 34 · 4 weeks
Their Goal
Get back to training and rolling without discomfort in shoulder and ribs, escpecially in sport specific positions.
What Their Body Was Doing
Limited rib mobility, scapular stabilizers guarding, impaired scapular upward rotation coordination and resultant neck and shoulder pain.
What We Did
Throacic rotation, breathing mechanics, serratus training, and cervical stability.
What They Can Do Now
He is back to training and rolling with a warm up for improved awareness before starting.
The Neck
"I was back to training without pain before the end of the week."
Neck Pain (my own) · Jiu Jitsu, 37 · 1 week
My Goal
Make my neck feel better before my next training session.
What My Body Was Doing
Thoracic extension was limited and upward rotation of the scapula was being compensated by levator.
What I Did
Addressed scapular control in open and closed chain. Then added thoracic rotation.
What I Can Do Now
I got back to training that same week.
